Essay OverviewThis
is an overview of the greater part of all the essays I've written, the
last couple of years. They are mostly on either poems or books, but I
have added a number of essays dealing with other subjects as well. They
are organised chronologically. Yellow wall-paper (04 Nov. '99): A short essay on the short story The Yellow Wall-Paper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, dealing with the narrative voice. Into Battle (09 Dec. '99): Very short essay on Julian Grenfell's poem "Into Battle", discussing its moral values. Sonnet 19 (22 Feb. '00): Shakespeare's "Sonnet 19" struck me as dealing with the conventions of the sonnet in a very lively manner, I analysed it and wrote an essay on it. Faustus (22 Mar. '00): This is a short essay dealing with important elements in the first soliloquy of Marlowe's Faustus. Boy-shooter (30 Mar. '00): Critical essay discussing the differences in writing between two newspaper articles. The topic of the articles is a lethal shooting accident involving two six-year old children. Valediction (03 May '00): An analysis of John Donne's "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning". Aggression (07 May '00): An essay examining reasons for human aggression. Deserted Village (18 Dec. '00): I had absolutely no inspiration whatsoever for this essay, I did have a couple of interesting ideas, though; this is what rolled out. Yekl (01 May '01): An essay dealing with the idea of the American melting pot using the short story Yekl by Abraham Cahan for examples. Secret Agent (05 May '01): Essay discussing the usage of secrecy in the novel The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad. Sea-sailing (02 Oct. '01): Short essay explaining the procedure of tacking about on a three-masted schooner. Death penalty (16 Oct. '01): Capital punishment has kept me occupied, off and on, for many years now, this is an essay discussing two articles on the death penalty, one for it, one against. Spring (24 Oct. '01): A short essay on the middle-English poem "Spring". |
